Lamborghini Murcielago is the most fantastic, dramatic, extreme super car. If you want to make a statement, get a 200mph-plus Murcielago. Even Ferraris pale into the background alongside it – particularly if it’s one of the famous vivid yellow ones. It was launched way back in 2001, as the first Lamborghini to be developed under Audi ownership. This in itself was significant, because it meant the company could call upon all the German brand’s expertise in quality and reliability. Previous Lamborghinis were known as being a bit fragile and temperamental; this car marked the turning point.

Extreme in every way sums up the mighty Murcielago. The first cars came with a huge 6.2-litre V12 engine that produced 580hp at high revs. It sounds like nothing else, particularly in the upper ranges, and I know people who buy it for the noise it makes alone.

A complex four-wheel drive transmission distributed this power, through either a six-speed manual or semi-automatic gearbox. The former can be hard work, so buyers often prefer the latter. I always warn them to buy as late as possible though. Lamborghini was constantly improving the set-up of the E-Gear system, eventually honing it into a very impressive set-up.

The styling of a largely carbon-fibre body is just incredible. This is why people buy the Murcielago. It’s big, extreme, wide, low, and aggressive – it looks like a Stealth fighter, particularly when the scissor-type doors are swung up and open. At speed, the fighter jet analogy continues, as two air intakes electronically fold out of the side rear panels – a fantastic touch. There’s also an electronic pop-up rear wing.

Inside, it’s not quite an Audi in its control layout – here; the Gallardo is better and more modern. But Lamborghini didn’t do a bad job, and it’s a lot better than the Diablo. It’s still rather tight for space in there, though, and it remains only a two-seater. Being 6ft 4in myself, I can fit snuggly in the coupe but look a bit like noddy in the spider!

Of course, if you think this is extreme, wait until you see the Roadster model, which came in 2004. This was Lamborghini’s answer to owners who were calling for even more ‘show’ with the first open-top Lambo for a decade, they really could expose themselves.

It’s hardly a practical option though. The roof is incredibly complicated to fit and remove – and, unbelievably, the car can’t be driven at more than 100mph with the roof up. It’s normally the other way around, which means the market for this model is even more specialist.

While the early 6.2-litre cars are the cheapest, buyers prefer the 2006 models if they can stretch to it. This was the year the Murcielago’s V12 was boosted to 6.5 litres, and 640bhp. These cars can be found by their new name – Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, with LP standing for ‘Lontitudinari Posteriari ‘referring to the rear-mid in-line position of the engine.

The LP models received a slight facelift front and rear, and Lamborghini also restyled the interior with some Audi-like quality and usability improvements. There was a better stereo – and, for when music was not enough, a new exhaust to create even more noise. The seats were repositioned as well, to try and carve out a bit more room inside. Oh, and there were more tweaks to the semi-auto and suspension.

One function the crowd conscious driver likes is the Launch Control device that came on this edition. Basically, this allows people to conduct the perfect standing start, guaranteeing to hit 60mph in the claimed 3.4 seconds. This is hard on the clutch and transmission, so cars fitted with it should be investigated carefully. But there’s no denying the showy nature of the car makes it a nice addition!

There was also a very desirable option copied from Ferrari – a glass cover for the mighty engine. Buyers love it. The last in the line and the most extreme Murcielago is the one that makes the most incredible poster car – the extreme LP 670-4 SuperVeloce – the Murcielago SV. This has 670bhp, weighs 100kg less, the option of a massive racecar-like rear wing, exotic materials, and even the option of matt paint. The market for these is small but, for some, it’s the only choice.

Mind you, while the Murcielago has huge emotional appeal, it actually has very little retail appeal. Very few are sold – it’s the ultimate supercar from its looks, engine and concept, but this sheer exclusivity works against it on the used market. The Spyder is virtually impossible to sell. When the soft-top demands 20 minutes to put up and down – well, car buyers view it with similar regard to an old Jeep Wrangler.

Therefore, the Murcielago really is usually the fifth or sixth car in their collection. For these people, buying one involves emotion, the world’s finest V12, and the scissor doors, why else is there an entire industry now devoted to converting Gallardos to get these door hinges! It will always hold a special place for me, but commercially, as a car dealer, you can’t justify it. Very, very few dealers are now willing to put their own money into one. We at Clive Sutton offer a wide range of new and used Lamborghini for sale. We deal across the UK and can look after your Lamborghini Murcielago car buying or selling requirements wherever you are located.

The high performance Lamborghini sports car is very popular for its aggressive look and speed. Lamborghini produces the world’s best and exciting sports cars. Some of the best known Lamborghini S.P.A. models are the Diablo, the Countach, the Gallardo and the Murcielago.

In 1963 Ferrucio Lamborghini founded the car company and located his factory in an Italian village Sant’Agata Bolognese. Though initially he was a tractor manufacturer, he developed interest in sports cars and after seeing high performance cars like Ferraris and Maseratis he built his own sports car the Lamborghini. Lamborghini, an independent Company after becoming bankrupt in 1978 was bought by Chrysler and became a subsidiary of German Audi AG in the year 1998.

Murcielago R-GT’s Le Mans version is considered as the fastest Lamborghini with 370 km/h. speeds. The Murcielago LP640 is considered as the fastest street model from Lamborghini with 340 km/h. speeds. Both Lamborghini models have V12 engine and are above 6000 cc. The old models of Lamborghini like the Diablo, the Countach and now the current model Murcielago have the familiar scissor doors rotating forward and up on hinges near the front door. Till 1989 all the Lamborghini models were produced with at least a V8 engine. Most of the Lamborghini models have the legendary V12 engine, the new model Gallardos have V10 engines. A low stance of the Lamborghini car has increased aerodynamic qualities with big tires digging into tarmac. The qualities of Lamborghini make it a perfect performance car. Driving a Lamborghini is like driving an F-1 race car and no special training is required. Though a Lamborghini is costly, still many people enjoy the thrill in its unforgettable driving experience with pure power and speed on race tracks or highway. The car has superb acceleration, high performance through the turns and runs in a safe environment.

Lamborghini Mucealago, named after a bull, has special features with 640 BHP, 6.5 l V12 engine, 665 Nm torque and a 4 wheel drive. The car reaches 100 km/hr. within 3.4 seconds and when the foot is kept on the gas pedal, this car will go non stop at 340 km/h. The 12 cylinder engine has a gas tank which can carry 100 liters. The traditionally designed car has 2 doors, 2 seats coupe and mid mounted engine. Gear box is placed in the front with optimal weigh distribution 42% front and 58% rear with special effects on braking, handling and traction. The carbon fiber body ensures the security of Lamborghini with roof, steel doors, tubular frame made of steel alloy and structural parts made of carbon fiber. Power vacuum, ventilated discs, aluminium alloy calipers, carbon ceramic brakes with front rear 6 piston break calipers are the salient specifications of the car.

Lamborghini Gallardo is considered the world’s tenth fastest car. This entry level car is the first of its kind with a huge Lamborghini V10 engine producing 520 horsepower. The engine takes 13.65 seconds to go from a speed of 0 to 100 km per hour. The Gallardo also takes 4 seconds, to go from 0 – 60 mph making it a faster model than the Murcielago.

Article by Keith Farren

The Tremec TKO is a great choice for retrofitting into the old muscle cars, but it isn’t quite a direct bolt-in replacement for a four speed. There are a few areas that will require modification and/or custom parts for a TKO conversion into any muscle car.

The Tremec TKO’s three rail internal shift mechanism is positioned at the top of the transmission, making it taller, wider and flatter across the top than most of the old four speeds that were common in the 1960s and 1970s. Some cars such as the 1967-1981 Camaros and Firebirds typically have ample room to install a TKO without any tunnel modifications. Other muscle cars have transmission tunnels that are barely big enough for the old four speeds, and will interfere with the TKO. Body mounts that are in bad condition will make things worse, so make sure your body mounts are in good shape before installing a TKO. Some cars can get by with just dimpling the transmission tunnel in a few areas, but on others there just isn’t any way to get around cutting the tunnel and reshaping new sheetmetal around the transmission. However, the modifications can almost always be covered by the factory carpet, and with a console may be completely invisible from inside the car.

Your transmission crossmember or its location will have to be modified in some way due to the mount pad location on the TKO being further rearward than the mount pad on most four speeds. On some cars you can just move the crossmember further back on the frame rails and drill new holes, but others may require sectioning your factory crossmember and welding it back together, or possibly fabricating a new one. Before removing your old transmission, it is wise to record the height of the transmission output shaft relative to some fixed point on the car so that you have a reference point to shoot for when modifying your crossmember or building a new one. The transmission height may need to be raised or lowered slightly in the end in order to obtain acceptable driveline angles, so keep that in mind if you are fabricating a new crossmember.

The TKO at 24.07″ long is not exactly the same length as any factory four speed, although it is very close to some versions of the Ford Toploader. Plan on either having your old driveshaft modified or having a new one built to work with the TKO. The TKO requires a Ford C6 pattern 31-spline slip yoke, but there are slip yokes available that will adapt the TKO to common 1310, 1330 or 1350 universal joints. You may want to keep your original driveshaft intact in case you ever decide to sell your car and want to convert it back to the original configuration.

Most four speed transmissions use a solid bronze pilot bushing in the crankshaft, but a roller pilot bearing is a good idea with almost any transmission. The TKO requires one. Make sure you install a roller pilot bearing along with the TKO.

The Tremec TKO has tapered roller bearings supporting the input shaft, and is designed with relatively tight tolerances. It doesn’t have the “slop” in the input shaft that the old 4-speed transmissions have. Tremec requires that you perform a bellhousing runout check to make sure that the transmission is properly aligned with the crankshaft. If you have more than 0.005″ of misalignment, you will need to install offset dowel pins to correct it.

Some cars have other challenges to overcome, such as the torsion bar front suspension on Mopar muscle cars. The support structure that the rear ends of the torsion bars attach to interferes with the TKO. A Mopar installation will either require a specially modified transmission, a serious amount of fabrication and reinforcing after removing the torsion bar support structure, or a new front suspension that eliminates the torsion bars altogether.

The areas of concern above are common to almost all TKO installations. Even considering these obstacles, the benefits of increased fuel mileage and decreased noise, heat and engine wear are worth the effort if you plan on driving your muscle car any further than just across town very often!

Keisler Engineering has overcome many of the hurdles above by modifying the transmission case and shift position to fit better in the old musclecars, and they also provide complete transmission kits that include crossmembers, driveshafts, and other conversion parts that are custom-designed specifically to mate the TKO to your car. Give them a call at (865) 609-8187 for more information on what is needed to install a TKO in your model of muscle car or street rod.

Anytime you are upgrading a muscle car or street rod, it helps to have a repair manual for reference. But which is the best kind to have – a factory service manual, a Haynes or Chiltons manual, or a subscription to ALLDATAdiy? Find out the pros and cons of each at my page on Auto Repair Information. If you are looking for a manual for a specific model of classic car, visit my guide to Classic Car Repair Resources.

The very first thing that many people do when they decide to purchase a new and used Ferrari is to settle for the first vehicle they lay eyes on. They will test-drive the vehicle and before they even return the keys to the car sales person, they have already made up their mind. Many people fail to realize there are several makes and models to choose from. So, before you choose your dream Ferrari, shop around a little. That way, you can select the best Ferrari that suits your needs.

For the past few years, Ferrari is still considered one of the most popular vehicles on the planet. Here are a couple of models to consider when searching for a new and used Ferrari.

Ferrari F430
The Ferrari F430 is one of the more recognizable models. This model is perfect for those who are considered novice drivers.
Article by Brenda Williams

When Henry Ford started producing automobiles, a car was, well, a car. And when Henry’s cars had lived out their life and were hauled off to a wrecking yard for burial, they were still a car.
Of course, there were convertibles, sedans, sports cars, trucks and racing cars. But if one of these began its life as, say, a convertible, it was still a convertible when its life ended.

Fast-forward to the 1960′s and the present day. Yes, we still have convertibles, sedans, sports cars, trucks and racing cars. But we also have cult cars, chick cars, guy cars, muscle cars, classic cars, and super cars. And while there was never any controversy over whether a convertible was a convertible or a sedan was a sedan, there is disagreement over whether a car is or isn’t a cult car, chick car, guy car, muscle car, classic car, or super car.

Further, once a convertible always a convertible. But not so with a supercar. A car can be a supercar in one decade but not in the next. So what characteristics constitute a supercar?

Historically, the term supercar was originally used in 1917 in an article in Car and Track about an Alfa Romeo Monza. However, CAR Magazine takes credit for ‘coining’ the phrase when L. J. K. Setright, a well-known British motor journalist, applied it to the Lamborghini Miura in the 1960′s. In the 1970′s it was used regularly although there still wasn’t total agreement on exactly what it meant. That is still the case today although there are some benchmarks.

A must for supercars is high speed. However, the ability to attain ultimate speed levels alone is not sufficient. The car must also have world class handling ability when driven at these speeds. As a result, supercars usually have rear engine placement and rear wheel drive. This feature places the bulk of the car’s weight in the middle of the car and permits intricate maneuvering and precision handling at high speeds.

Another feature of a supercar is high acceleration. A supercar should be able to go from 0 to 100 mph in less than seven seconds and from 0 to 200 mph in less than thirty seconds.

Added to high performance are the characteristics, which are more difficult to define, and may be the cause of some of the controversy in labeling a supercar.

The supercar should be ‘exotic’ in appearance and be on the cutting edge of design. Although not a benchmark, one feature that all supercars share is high price which translates to anywhere from a few hundred thousand to around two million dollars.

Supercars can either be factory models or modifications of factory models. An example of a modification is the 1986 Pontiac Trans AM. The Polly Motorsport Company, based in Norway, took this car and modified it so it was ‘lightening fast.’ The modified Trans AM set a speed record of 407.134 kmph on the Papenburg Test Track in Germany. It could also accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 2.3 seconds. Not only is it now a supercar, it is also the fastest street legal car in Europe.

Another automobile that achieved both supercar and cult status is the Lamborghini Countach, popularized due to its extreme design.

One is not likely to encounter a supercar on the way to work during the morning rush hour. In fact, a supercar is not a daily commuter; it is a toy, albeit a high priced one designed for fun for the elite.

Article by Keith Farren

Tremec is an OE transmission manufacturer that supplies manual transmissions for General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Aston Martin, and many medium and heavy duty truck applications. Their TKO transmission is a high strength overdrive manual 5-speed that was originally designed to be retrofitted into Mustang Fox body cars to replace the weaker T5, but will also bolt up to the standard Ford four speed passenger car bellhousing. When Tremec realized that enthusiasts were adapting it for GM applications, they decided to capitalize on a huge opportunity and produce a GM version of the TKO as well.

The GM version will bolt directly up to almost any standard Chevrolet/Buick/Olds/Pontiac passenger car four-speed bellhousing. Though only Ford and GM versions of the TKO are available, Mopar enthusiasts can get all the custom parts they need to adapt a Ford version TKO to virtually any Mopar V8 engine from Keisler Engineering. The TKO has never been original equipment in any production car, although its great-grandpa, the Tremec TR-3550 was in a limited-production Ford Mustang Cobra in the mid 1990s. The TKO is purely an aftermarket transmission designed for high-performance cars.

There are three basic models available: the TKO-500 and two variations of the TKO-600. The wide-ratio TKO-500 is rated for a continuous 500 lb.-ft. of torque, and offers a deep 3.27:1 first gear ratio and a 32% overdrive ratio in fifth gear. The close-ratio TKO-600 is rated for a continuous 600 lb.-ft. of torque, and has a 2.87:1 first gear and either an 18% overdrive or a 36% overdrive ratio in fifth gear. The rated torque capacities are said to be quite conservative, as there are a significant number of cars in the field with engines that exceed the torque rating by a large margin, and failures are rare.

The TKO uses a three-rail internal shift mechanism, eliminating any external linkage and the adjustment issues that go with it. The short throw billet aluminum shifter can be removed, flipped 180 degrees, and then reinstalled to provide an additional shift position. Optional custom shifters are also available from Keisler Engineering in several different configurations to mimic the shift positions in various musclecars. The TKO utilizes cast iron shift forks, a one-piece counter shaft, and tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and counter shafts for added strength.

Every TKO transmission provides both mechanical and electronic speedometer outputs. The mechanical output is a Ford design, but you can get hybrid speedometer cables for GM or Mopar applications. They also feature a reverse light switch and a neutral safety switch that can be wired into your vehicle’s existing harness. The transmission has an internal reverse lockout feature that prevents you from accidentally going from fifth gear into reverse. You have to go into the center of the “Neutral” gate before it will allow you to shift into reverse.

The Tremec TKO is an excellent choice for the musclecar, hot rod or street rod owner that enjoys shifting his own gears and wants to drive his car to distant car shows or other events. I have one in my 1967 Pontiac Firebird and have driven a number of other cars with TKO transmissions installed. The overdrive makes a huge difference on the highway, and there aren’t many other overdrive transmission choices out there that will stand up to the kind of power that the TKO can take. None of the other overdrive transmissions available at this time offer as much versatility as the Tremec TKO.

Anything that has captivated the essence of speed in human beings is the Ferrari. The impeccable design mingled with extraordinary brilliance in performance ensures that the car is someone’s dream. Keanu Reaves, the Hollywood actor of Matrix fame was once found quoting “here comes 40. I am feeling my age and I have ordered the Ferrari”. Such is the magnimonity attached with the care that everyone from child hood who ever dreams to be successful dreams of driving a Ferrari. Ferrari is the symbolic of the untamed and indomitable spirit of man to conquer the hearts and souls of many with their speed. Every Ferrari made exudes power, dominance, cutting edge technology blended with elegance, style and more importantly a craving desire which can only be satiated by driving a Ferrari.
When Enzo Ferrari started Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 he thought he would sponsor budding racer and make cars. But it almost took him 15 years to make the 1st Ferrari roll out from Italy. It is said that Italians are always obsessed with style and they are the trend setters of technology to the whole world. Ferrari was no exception to it. Enzo Ferrari was a genius and he rose to the pinnacle of automobile designs- designs that mesmerizes human being with the brilliance and flamboyance in aerodynaimics and excellent engine strength.
A younger engineer, Mauro Forghieri, andSergio Scaglietti, a racing bodyman, , take the responsibility and tried to finish the projects that the leaving employees had left behind. One of the biggest tasks was to complete developing 250 GTO; a new model which can compete with the E-type Jaguar. The 250 GTO was accomplished in time to participate in the Sebring race and place itself first in class, driven by Phil Hill. The 250 GTO continued to win the races through the year 1962 and it is now still one of the most well-known race cars through decades. Ferrari turned the crisis into something good and the 1960s became very good years for the companyFerrari was incidentally using fuel injections in the road cars. Ferrari cars are a treat to watch as the zoom off in great style and power. Ferrari are also blamed to make temperamental cars which don’t provide safety in the road. But the critics of Ferrari are often bewildered when they see the excellent fan support and the passion for the car. Thus it makes Ferrari as one of the most stylish car companies of the world.
Most of the people associate Ferrari with F1 cars. The F1 cars are always a treat to watch as they are they conceive the highest degree of power, style, precision and overall technology. Ferrari makes cars which are combination of all these. Ferrari may spell heavy on the pockets of the users, yet it brings style unmatched to the driver who drives it. Ferrari has something every successful man craves to possess. The previous decade has been golden for Ferrari and it will be a understatement to say the coming years will be ordinary, as they are left with themselves to compete.

Article by Jessica Whittaker

The world’s fastest, most beautifully designed and engineered, priciest cars are totally worth every penny paid for them. That’s because when they deliver, they deliver like no other car in their range can. When you drive them, you feel like you own the road.

Ordinary cars maybe fast enough to get you to your office on time but they are not fast enough to win you a race. Supercars have higher acceleration and higher top speeds. They have futuristic designs and are modeled by the same people who design sports cars.

Supercars have to be perfect. Maximum horse power, torque, acceleration, top speeds and relatively low weights define performance of supercars. Take the latest Saleen Mustang Dark Horse Extreme for instance. It looks like a car fit for a ruler and it lives up to its name with a 620 horsepower and 600 ft-lbs torque. It is everything a Ford Mustang should be. The Saleen Port Matched Series VI Integrated Screw type supercharger, the forged crankshafts and aluminum pistols make this supercar an indulgence that anybody would long for. The Ultimate Aero TT by SSC is a great machine because its power to weight ratio is just perfect -the engine carries only 1.42 kilograms per kilowatts and it has 2.33lb per horsepower. Amazing huh?

Many supercars are built with a rear mid-engine and a rear wheel drive out. This is to optimize the weight distribution. Italy is perhaps the most prominent country when it comes to making supercars. With names as big as Ferrari, Masserati and Lamborghini, Italian supercars are considered to be a class apart. Now supercars are not only fast but also great at handling. They must be smooth and precise while you drive. Greater cornering speeds and road gripping abilities are primary feature of a supercar.

The top speed is another important defining feature of the performance of supercars. Most supercars these days reach 190-250mph The Bugatti Veyron can reach 0-300km/h at the speed of 190mph in 19 seconds. Today, the Ultimate Aero TT is the fastest supercar there is with a top speed of 256mph. It only costs half as much as the Veyron does.

Most supercars accelerate from 0 to 62mph under 4 seconds or maybe a second or two more. The Veyron is the fastest accelerating car in the world as it reaches 62 mph in 2.5 seconds. This is of course due to its four-wheel drive system that helps to attain such a power when the vehicle accelerates. An Ultima GTR can achieve 160kmph in 5.3 seconds while the Veyron takes 5.5 seconds.

Different people have different opinions about what the performance of supercars should be. To some the price matters more than anything else, to some the brand is everything and to others, it’s the acceleration and the top speed that do the trick. However, there are a lot of factors to be considered other than just these like the fuel consumption. Take the Buggati Veyron itself -it consumes a lot of fuel -115L/100km at full throttle, which makes it the most fuel consuming car there is. However, it still is considered to be one of the best supercars because of its brand, its ability to accelerate and the second highest top speed after the SSC’s Ultimate Aero TT. Bugatti also claims that the car will have a braking speed of ten seconds from 249 mph.

When it comes to supercars, performance is everything.

Article by Jimmy Plant

I am a very logical person and I really dislike anything supernatural or metaphysical. I am more into things I can see and touch, such as car parts and engines. My roomate Joe on the other hand, is the exact opposite. While I’ll be restoring my latest beloved muscle car, Joe will be researching some new mystical art or ancient mystery.

His latest obsession was stage magic and he began practicing it with gusto. Last week, he tried to impress me with his newest tricks.

“Take note, oh simpleminded audience,” he said flourishing his arms, “that there is nothing up my sleeves.”

“What about that pulley system?” I pointed out after noticing some suspicious wires. “And that hidden deck of cards, and… my god! Is that a dove?”

“Squeaky!” screamed Joe, and he shook his sleeve until the body of his dove fell out with a thud. Unfortunately, poor Squeaky had suffocated in Joe’s armpit–not a good way to go by any means…

Joe was feeling remorseful, so after the funeral, we decided to go to see a real magic show in Squeaky’s honor.

“It’s what he would’ve wanted,” said Joe, “After all, he lay down his life in service to the craft.”

We hopped into my restored ’65 Corvette Stingray and moseyed down to the magical theatre. Inside, it was dark and packed with people. They had all come to see the Great Magnifico, who was in town for one night only.

Magnifico stepped onstage, dressed in a flowing cape and top hat. He began his act by pulling a mile of colored scarves out of his throat.

“Yawn!,” I shouted, “It’s been done!”

Magnifico scowled and moved on to his next trick, the Chinese linking rinks.

“You suck!” I bellowed, “Boo! Boo!”

Magnifico scowled harder at me and announced that it was time for his final act. He clapped his hands and a lion appeared onstage, prowling around. Magnifico covered the beast with a cloth and shouted the magic word. There was a huge puff of smoke and lights. When the smoked cleared, the audience cheered loudly, for there, onstage, was a ’65 Corvette Stingray–my Stingray! And the lion was in the driver’s seat, revving the engine!

Magnifico clapped his hands again and the lion floored the gas, driving around the stage madly and roaring in triumph.

“Magnifico!” I shouted, “This time you’ve gone too far!” And I raced out of my seat and toward the stage.

But Magnifico was one step ahead of me, and he called out to the lion. “Simba, attack!”

I took a flying leap onto the stage while the lion flew at me. We met in mid air and fought fiercely. But, we finally agreed to a draw and went our separate ways…

As we drove home, Joe said it was the greatest magic show he had ever witnessed. I was still not impressed with the magical arts, but I was glad to get my Corvette back.

I feel bad that my car had to go through that terrible ordeal. I’m going to reward it with one of those B&I Wood Dash Kits and some other accessories. I’ll also buy some seat covers and floormats in addition to the wood dash kits…

MORE MUSCLE CAR MADNESS @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com In 2002, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second human being to set foot on the moon, punched a guy in the face for accusing him of faking the moon landing. Buzz was 72 years old at the time. Go right ahead and question the existence of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT, 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and 2010 Chevy Camaro SS and they, too, might just give you a knuckle sandwich in the kisser. Like Mr. Aldrin, they bear names from long ago that have made a collective return to the limelight. Like Mr. Aldrin, they are American heroes with unparalleled legacies reaching across decades. And like Mr. Aldrin, they have Ph.Ds in kicking ass. Their makers may have proven that they have the financial acumen of a blind yak. However, we submit these pony car icons as proof that the home team can extract their craniums from their nether regions once in awhile and knock the cover off the ball.
